Mission statement:

The primary mission of the Department of Pediatrics, AIIMS Rishikesh is to improve the lives of children by providing the highest quality preventive, diagnostic and treatment facilities to children and adolescents and to improve outcomes through research, training, education and advocacy.

We are committed to continuously upgrading ourselves and incorporating the best of the evidence based medicine and technology to provide excellent care.

Vision statement: In achieving our mission, we commit to the following core values and self- assigned tasks.

  • Children come first, above all personal and professional priorities. The right of children to quality healthcare and physical and mental wellbeing assures the future of society. Respect for children above all else is the responsibility of community and health care professionals.
  • Ensuring state of the art pediatric and pediatric subspecialty services under one roof so that children of this region can have access to the world-class preventive, diagnostic and treatment services.
  • Commitment to optimal outcomes for children and critical evaluation of those outcomes through comprehensive evidence-based quality health care. We aspire for continuous improvement in the quality of health care by making decisions based on the best available evidence in the literature. At the same time, we envisage to optimize the quality of life, inculcate healthy lifestyle habits and prevent diseases in children.

Expansion plan

Expansion planned for the future:

  • To establish a separate state of the art Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with facilities for advanced mechanical ventilation, management of catecholamine resistant shock, postoperative care, cardiac intensive care, renal replacement therapy, and management of acute hepatic failure.
  • To establish a pediatric growth lab and clinical nutrition unit for identifying children having growth failure, due to macronutrient and micronutrient deficiencies and enabling optimum rehabilitation of these children.
  • To establish a dedicated pediatric endoscopy suite, which will also have facilities for other ancillary invasive and noninvasive specialized investigations in pediatric gastroenterology and Hepatology.
  • To establish a comprehensive pediatric neurology lab with facilities for electroencephalography, electrophysiology, polysomnography, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and other investigations, as well as an epilepsy monitoring unit.
  • To establish a comprehensive rehabilitation center under one roof for children with neuro disabilities.
  • To initiate pediatric hemodialysis, short term, and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis and plasma exchange services for pediatric renal disorders.
  • To initiate pediatric oncology services for children suffering from hematological and other solid malignancies.
  • To establish pediatric rheumatology, allergy and immunology services, with long term quality health care to children with joint pathology, connective tissue disorders, and other allied illnesses.
  • To set – up an advanced pediatric echocardiography lab
  • To start super-specialty training programs in pediatric nephrology, critical care, rheumatology, cardiology and hemato-oncology in near future.
  • To establish an advanced pediatric skill lab with a simulation training facility for undergraduate and postgraduate trainees in our institute.
  • To offer the short-term programs, training and refreshers courses for residents, trainees, and pediatricians from communities.
  • To establish telemedicine services and liaise with local district health units to cater to people from remote areas of Uttarakhand who are unable to access quality healthcare services
  • To collaborate with institute of national importance and international institutes of repute for research and advanced training.

Digital Information

The Department of Paediatrics is publishing a monthly newsletter for faculty and residents. The newsletter is related to genealogical parlance and deliberate attempt to enhance awareness for genetic disorders with recent updates.
