The major chunk of apprehension while coming to the college for the first time had its roots in the kind of food students would be served in the campus mess. Having grown up, listening to the stories of college mess serving horrible tasteless and unhealthy food, the mess at AIIMS Rishikesh became a reason for students to be delighted and proud. Initially it was a Student-run mess, which has been converted to a Student-supervised private mess.
It offers a variety of dishes round the week to satisfy taste buds, as well as taking care of health. There is a schedule for menu over the week, which keeps on changing at regular intervals so that students do not get bored of same kind of food. From simple daal-sabzi-roti to Paneer, Chicken and Sweets of various kinds; from typical North Indian food to some delicacies of South India, Rajasthan and Punjab, there are ample numbers of dishes for students coming from almost every state of India.
There is also a well-functioning OTC which provides tea, coffee, maggi, omelets and snacks, till late night, which is really a boon for the students especially during exams! Students can also purchase packed food items like milk, ice creams, chips, etc. from them.
Mess in AIIMS Rishikesh is not just a place where meals are served; it is also a place where friends are bonded over food. From watching cricket matches together to stealthily lifting sweets off a friend’s plate; from receiving ice cream treats to having group discussions and birthday celebrations, students do a lot of crazy stuff there. The three-storey building will always be found standing, whenever students tread down the memory lane.
