Introduction

Introduction: Telemedicine has been functional in AIIMS Rishikesh since 2018 under two specialities- tele-education and tele-consultation.

Mission: Telemedicine is identified as a key strategy to deliver expert speciality and super-speciality consultation and care. Telemedicine Department has been established with a vision to expand horizon of health services to reach difficult and remote areas of Uttarakhand and neighbouring states. Services offered by telemedicine unit are mainly teleconsultation, telemedicine and tele-education.

Vision: To reach and cater to healthcare needs of every individual in State of Uttarakhand and adjoining area. To serve as centre of excellence for health institutions like Primary Health Care and medical colleges in Uttarakhand including

Activities

Tele-education

Tele-education services are being functional in AIIMS Rishikesh since October 2018 with its station at Department of Community and Family medicine, AIIMS Rishikesh. The remote centres located at SGPGIMS Lucknow, AIIMS Delhi and PGIMER Chandīgarh. Department involved in tele-education are Microbiology, Cardiology, Radiotherapy, Medical Genetics, Medical Oncology, Surgical Gastroenterology, Nursing Skill Development, Trauma Surgery & Emergency Medicine, Palliative care, and Orthopaedics etc.

Department of Medical oncology, trauma surgery and orthopaedics also organised the tele education session which was attended by the other centres

Tele-consultation

Tele-consultations are synchronous or asynchronous consultation using information and communication technology to omit geographical and functional distance. These services are functioning in AIIMS Rishikesh as Hub and Spoke Model. AIIMS Rishikesh acts as Hub centre providing services to five areas (spokes). These five areas are namely NTPC (National Thermal Power Cooperation) Joshimath, NHPC (National Hydroelectric Power Cooperation) Faridabad, Shivanand Dharmarth Chikitsalaya, Shivanand Ashram, Ganeshpur Uttarkashi, THDC Tehri and Pauri area.

Virtual OPD (e- Dhanvantari)

Tele-consultation services (Virtual OPD) were started for all citizens in need which include Allopathic as well as AYUSH consultations. These services aim to provide healthcare services to patients at their home.

Objectives of Virtual OPD ( e- Dhanvantari)

  • To minimise physical contact amid of COVID 19 pandemic situation, unless emergency
  • To save the trouble of physical travel for regular OPD visits, especially to senior citizens in view of non-availability of transportation services.
  • To provide continuum of care for all its beneficiaries

Virtual OPD started from mid of March 2020.

Patients can take online consultation via, phone, WhatsApp messages, WhatsApp video call. The virtual OPD runs for 6 working day; 9 am to 6 pm for general consultation and 9am to 1 pm for specialist consultation.

Whereas, AYUSH faculty are being made available at 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm for six working days. Faculty, Senior residents, junior resident, nursing staff from all departments are being posted on-rotation basis.

e-Sanjeevani

e-Sanjeevani OPD – Stay Home OPD developed by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India. It is being deployed nationally for the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare at 155,000 Health and Wellness Centres under Ayushman Bharat Scheme of Government of India. AIIMS Rishikesh is also collaborating with e-sanjeevani OPD and providing tele-consulation. Speciality from AIIMS Rishikesh providing services under e-Sanjeevani are General Medicine, Surgery, Dermatology, Orthopaedics, Community and Family Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Urology, Psychiatry and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
