Division of “Molecular Biology, Proteomics and Metabolomic”

Vision statement: The Division looks forward to serve as a centre of excellence, committed to basic and translational research in healthcare and diagnostics. The activities will be dedicated to improve quality of life of individuals suffering from various challenges of today’s medical practices. Division will cater to research and diagnostics facilities for genetic diseases using genetic mutation based assay for different cancer, neurological disorder, Inborn errors, and metabolic disorder. Our future prospect is to be the best in the world of holistic wellbeing. Making preventive, predictive and diagnostic healthcare accessible to everyone.

Mission statement: It promises to provide quality laboratory services in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner for optimal patient outcome and health. Our dedication to excellence pushes our team to deliver consistent, current, high quality results, exemplary research and diagnostics resources today and anticipating needs of tomorrow.

  • Research in the department: Facilities available for the research

Cell culture laboratory: An in-use facility available for maintainance of cell lines of various disease like neurological disorders, breast cancer, liver cancer, metabolic diseases and also primary cells grown from tissues, blood and other body fluids. In future we plan to expand the cell culture facility for stem cell research and regenerative medicine as well.

Fluorescent In- situ Hybridization laboratory: Tissue and hematological FISH have been standardized for a number of malignancies for eg: CML, Breast cancer etc to name a few.

PCR lab

Quantitative Real Time-PCR lab

Bio Banking facility: Biobank supplies high quality clinically annotated human samples to researchers in academic and institution to foster medically relevant research discoveries and improve treatment option. This is most important tool for future research. This is the first facility in north India which provides uniform temperature and maintain stability of protein, DNA and RNA in blood, tissue and other biological fluids.

Clinical Metabolomics Laboratory

Introduction: Establishment of Clinical Metabolomics Laboratory is planned, offering custom metabolomics for researchers at AIIMS Rishikesh and eventually investigators of scientific community even outside AIIMS Rishikesh. This would be a Liquid Chromatography – Mass spectrometry (LC-MSMS) with triple quadruple system having Ion Trap Facility. This metabolomics lab would offer targeted methods for known and unknown metabolite identification and quantification.

Expected Benefits: Development of this facility would ensure thriving of research output and milieu. Thus serving as a platform to enhance research which is a mandate of our Institute. “Clinical Metabolomics Laboratory” would offer testing facilities for wide variety of molecules, supporting varied research. Facility would primarily focus on Liquid Chromatography – Mass spectrometry (LCMSMS) with triple quadruple system having Ion Trap Facility.
