Vision

The Department of Diagnostic & Intervention Radiology, AIIMS Rishikesh provides state of the art imaging facilities and innovative minimally invasive interventional procedures at affordable prices making quality healthcare services accessible to all. We earnestly strive to improve the coverage of our services while maintaining the high level of quality reporting that the department is known for. Our Breast radiology division forms an integral part of Breast clinic offering diagnostic as well as therapeutic interventional services at one unique interface for patients. In co-ordination with Departments of General Surgery, Pathology and Radiotherapy, it provides a holistic platform for management of pathologies of the breast.

Mission

To develop a facility with International Standards, which shall provide a comprehensive and modern set up for providing Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Services to patients at affordable cost.

Services Available in the Department:

  • Outpatient Department and in patient diagnostic imaging work.

  • Procedures (Diagnostic and /or Therapeutic) offered by the department:
    • Any Special procedures which are done in department in OPD or IPD basis
    • USG, CT guided non vascular interventions like FNAC, biopsies, PC drainages, PTBD, PTBD Stenting,PCN,PAIR for hydatid cysts, Percutaneous embolisation of pseudoaneurysms, Dilatation of benign biliary strictures like post cholecystectomy/ post RYHJ strictures etc.
    • Vascular interventions-Bronchial artery embolisation,uterine artery embolisation, Embolisations for GI bleed, Embolisation for peripheral AVM’s, interventions in varicose veins (Laser ablation and chemical ablation), preoperative embolisations for renal angiomyolipoma ,embolisation for renal pseudoaneurysms.
    • Interventions in oncology- department are routinely performing preoperative embolisation for RCC, orthopedic tumors and head & neck tumors. PICC lines and chemoportsfor chemotherapy.TACE for HCC. Soon department will be equipped with radio frequency ablation system for ablations of HCC,RCC,lung cancer and osteiodosteoma.
    • Interventions in CLD and portal hypertension- PARTO(plug assisted retrograde transvenous obliteration of gastric varices) and BRTO (balloon occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration of gastric varices) for hepatic encephalopathy and gastric bleeds in patients with gastrorenal and lienorenal shuts. Partial splenic embolisation,TIPS(trans jugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt) and transjugular liver biopsy (TJLB).
    • Interventions in nephrology- Department is equipped in performing permacath placement and revascularization of AV graft and fistulas in patients dependent on dialysis.
    • Interventions in trauma- Embolisation of visceral artery bleeding following solid organ injury. Embolisation of peripheral artery injuries following trauma.
    • Interventions in gynecology- Uterine artery embolisation for fibroids, AVM and post partum hemorrhage. Department is equipped for performing fallopian tube recanalisation.

Clinical Services: Vacuum Assisted breast biopsy, incisionless excision of benign breast lumps, Stereotactic biopsy of micro calcification.

Academics and teaching: Development of Clinical Vignette Based tutorials, Hands on skill development. Development of evaluation systems for daily workplace assessment

Research: Establishing normal morphological parameters of Indian patients.Research in improving the specificity of imaging modalities in the diagnosis of Breast cancer.
