Mission

  • The Department of Transfusion Medicine aims to provide safe and effective transfusion services to the needy. It supports the patients from Uttarakhand and also surrounding areas of Uttar Pradesh.
  • To provide quality education to enrolled students using interactive and innovative experiential learning strategies

Services

Existing facilities-

  • Have a fully functional blood bank with following facilities:
    • Whole blood collection- In house as well as in Voluntary blood donation camps
    • Blood donor counselling and notification
    • Components preparation like SAGM Packed red blood cells (PRBC), Leuco-reduced red blood cells, Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP), Platelet Concentrates preparation (Random Donor Platelets preparation by buffy coat method), Cryoprecipitate, Cryo poor plasma, modified blood components like washed red cells, paediatric RBC preparation and Leucofilterated RBC. Centre has 100 % component preparation facility.
    • TTI (Transfusion Transmitted Infection) testing of the collected blood units by Chemiluminescence immunoassay and NAT (nucleic acid testing)
    • Fully automated immunohematology laboratory that provide facility of blood grouping, Direct Antiglobulin test, Indirect Antiglobulin test, Minor Phenotyping, Antibody screening & Identification and crossmatching
    • Good storage capacity of Blood Components
    • Having Apheresis facility for providing Plateletpheresis(Single donor apheresis platelets unit ), granulocytopheresis, lymphocytapehersis, leucapheresis and plasmaphereis facility
    • Peripheral Blood Stem Cell collection
    • Therapeutic work in the form of practicing modern clinical transfusion practices, therapeutic plasma exchanges for different indications, therapeutic phlebotomy and autologous transfusion
    • PRP therapy and platelet gel therapy for different indications in collaboration with various departments
    • Intrauterine Transfusion in collaboration with Obstetrics and Gynaecology department
  • NACO training centre for Blood Banks of Uttarakhand
  • Participation in hemovigilance program of India and donor vigilance program of India
  • Regular updating of stock in e-raktkosh porta

Expansion plan

Short term plans-

  • To start the facility of Peripheral Blood Stem Cell preservation
  • Facility of gamma irradiation of blood components for Intrauterine transfusion, exchange transfusion and immunocompromised patients and candidates of Bone Marrow Transplantation
  • To start the facility of mobile blood donation camps
  • To start the facility of thromboelastography for monitoring the functional hemostatic status of the patients
  • Pneumatic tube system for receiving and dispensing blood units
  • Computerization in blood bank through advanced level Blood Bank Software with iris recognition etc

Long term plans-

  • Diploma and Certificate courses for Medical Officers and Technicians
  • PDCC course for post MD students in the field of Immunohematology and apheresis
