SERVICES AVAILABLE IN THE DEPARTMENT:

OUTPATIENTS SERVICES:

GENERAL OPD: General Neurology OPD caters patients suffering from various neurological disorders including headache, seizures, stroke, movement disorders, demyelinating disorders, neuromuscular disorders.

  • SPECIALTY CLINICS/ SERVICES (DIAGNOSTIC AND/OR THERAPEUTIC) SCHEDULE- DAY AND CONSULTANT WISE
  • NEUROPHYSIOLOGY DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES (Monday to Friday (8:30am-5:30pm) and Saturday (8:30 am-2pm)

We have a state of art facility for doing Electroencephalography (EEG), Nerve conduction studies (NCS), Electromyography (EMG), Repetitive nerve stimulation (RNS) and Evoked potentials (EP). We have one Video EEG machine (Natus) and one NCS/EMG machine, 8 channel machine to record evoked potentials (Nihon Kohden Neuropack). The lab is run by experienced technical staff under the supervision of the faculty. Routine as well as special neurophysiological studies are undertaken in the department. The appointments for EEG/ NCS/ EMG studies are obtained from Neurology lab staff.

IN-PATIENTS DEPARTMENT:

The department caters to the need of serious patients by admitting them. We also admit patients with diagnostic dilemma. Neurology general ward is situated in the C6 area on the 5th floor of the OPD block (Block-C) with 20 beds. It includes 4-beded Neurology ICU.

PROCEDURES (DIAGNOSTIC AND/OR THERAPEUTIC) OFFERED BY THE DEPARTMENT:

The department offers following special procedures on OPD/IPD basis –

  • Intravenous thrombolysis for acute ischemic stroke presenting in the window period i.e., within 4.5 hours of onset of symptoms.
  • Botulinum toxin injection for patients with focal dystonia and spasticity.
  • Neurophysiology procedures – in the Neurophysiology lab (Monday to Friday 8:30 am5:30pm and Saturday 8:30am-2pm)Electrophysiology procedures including Nerve conduction studies (NCS), sympathetic skin response (SSR), electromyogram (EMG), electroencephalogram (EEG), Evoked potentials including visual evoked potentials (VEP), brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP), Somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP).
  • Nerve and muscle biopsy.
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic lumbar puncture.

Expansion plan

EXPANSION PLANNED FOR THE FUTURE:

  • Plan to start Deep brain stimulation surgery for Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders.
  • Epilepsy monitoring unit and Epilepsy surgery program.
  • Research: Projects in Restless legs syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, neuroimmunology, Neuropathies and Headache.
