Our vision:

Compared to western world, neonatal mortality rate is still very high in India. The state of Uttarakhand and its adjoining area records even a higher neonatal mortality amongst the states of India. The Department of Neonatology, AIIMS Rishikesh made a modest beginning in November 2017 to provide comprehensive services to neonates of the state of Uttarakhand and surrounding areas. Presently we are having a 24-bedded neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and are providing tertiary care and follow-up services to both inborn and outborn neonates with round-the-clock neonatal emergency services. DM Neonatology course has been started since July 2018. Presently, we have 10 DM candidates with us. We are also running a separate Covide-19 NICU to cater neonates delivered to Covid-positive or Covid-suspected mothers.

Mission statement:

We are committed to bring an overall quality improvement in neonatal care of the state, decrease neonatal mortality to a single digit with intact neurological survival and develop the department as a neonatal teaching, training and research hub.
