Medical Oncology/Haematology

Vision:

To establish a center of excellence in oncology & hematology in Uttarakhand & adjoining states, for evidence-based, state-of-art, individualized care for all cancers & blood disorders in both adult & pediatric patients, plus a nodal center for advanced teaching, training, and research in oncology & hematology. The Department of Medical Oncology & Hematology, AIIMS Rishikesh was started by Dr. Uttam Kumar Nath on 29th February 2016. Since its inception, the department is dedicated to provide tertiary level diagnostic, therapeutic & preventive care to oncology & haematology patients through OPD, IPD, Day Care & special clinics.

Mission statement:

  • To provide comprehensive, multi-disciplinary, highest quality tertiary care to medical oncology & hematology patients attending AIIMS Rishikesh from the state of Uttarakhand & other parts of India. This encompasses patient-oriented curative, palliative, preventive & supportive care services at the lowest possible costs, for the benefit of patients across the entire socioeconomic spectrum. Treatment decisions & planning for all cancer patients at AIIMS Rishikesh are made through discussion & consensus at the multi-disciplinary Tumor Board consisting of experts from all concerned specialties.
  • To conduct advanced scientific research in oncology & hematology in collaboration with national & international centers of excellence, with special emphasis on developing novel diagnostic tests, prognostic markers & innovative treatment protocols which are adapted to & affordable in the Indian context.
  • Training of healthcare professionals in the super specialties of oncology & hematology, with the goal of capacity building. The department is running DM Clinical Haematology post-doctoral course since January 2018, PDCC Haemato-oncology course since July 2018, and DM Medical Oncology post-doctoral course since January 2019. The faculty & residents of the department are also involved in postgraduate, undergraduate & nursing students’ teaching & training activities at AIIMS Rishikesh.
  • To conduct high-quality clinical trials in oncology & hematology in accordance with GCP guidelines – including industry-sponsored global/national multicentric trials. The department has recently been selected for two industry-sponsored global multicentric clinical trials.
