Medical Education Cell (MEC) at AIIMS, Rishikesh was conceptualized with aim to keep Faculty Members, Residents and students abreast with latest trends in teaching methodologies and advancements in Clinical and Basic Sciences. It was created to accomplish requirements of teacher and learners with respect to Medical Education. Technological development and knowledge expansion in Medical Sciences has necessitated need for training medical teachers. For a teacher to be conversant with latest developments, up gradation is required at frequent intervals. With this aim, Institute had established a Medical Education Cell, to encourage and conduct activities of Continuing Medical Education (C.M.E.) in April 2013 under Chairmanship of Dean Prof. (Dr.) Latika Mohan with a team of Faculty Members. Lectures and talks by imminent speakers and Faculty Members have been conducted since then with an aim of upgrading and imparting Continuous Medical Education to Undergraduate, Postgraduate students and Clinicians. Continuing Medical Education (C.M.E.) Lecture was first activity that started in May 2013 presented by various departments on topics of common interest. Apart from discussing topics of common interest, Grand Clinical Rounds (GCR) for interesting cases like rare form of vasculitis, poly trauma, primary ovarian insufficiency etc were also discussed by concerned departments with audience including MBBS students.
With vision to establish Centre of excellence in Medical education and recognition at global level, initially set cell has metamorphosed to a full-fledged department under guidance of Dr. Shalinee Rao, Professor and Head, Department of Medical Education in July 2017. Members of team have expanded to have representation of clinical, para clinical and pre-clinical subjects. Medical Education at AIIMS, Rishikesh since its inception has tried to keep pace with growth of the Institution and has focussed in providing skill competency based programs to ensure participants have satisfactory learning experiences.

COLS (Compression only Life Support) has been provided to general public in community to combat out of hospital cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest can be dealt with and death can be avoided by prompt Basic life support (BLS) Considering complexity in training in Basic life support for layperson a simple yet effective alternative training program is need of hour. With regard to this, Indian resuscitation Council has developed guidelines of Compression-Only Life Support (COLS) for training layperson to resuscitate cardiac arrest victims outside hospital. Compression-Only Life Support is as effective as BLS for cardiac arrest at home, work or public places and CPD has conducted training of general public for COLS.

Human Patient Simulator for Training & Education with physical characteristic of an Adult Male & Child Ability to react/simulate Human to intravenous drugs, CPR, defibrillation, intubations ventilation, anaesthetic agents, catheterizations & other procedures. Simulator can breathe spontaneously with a self-regulated rate & tidal volume sufficient to maintain a target arterial carbon dioxide which can be adjusted by Instructor. Normal and abnormal breath sounds are present with Oxygen Saturation and plethysmogram display on clinical patient monitor and can demonstrate various clinical signs (i.e. heart, breath sounds, palpable pulses, chest excursion, airway patency).
Wireless Trauma Care &Anaesthesia Management Simulator (Adult Male & Female)
Simulates human physiology including Cardiovascular system, Pulmonary system, Neuromuscular system, and Central nervous system, exhibits clinical signs (e.g., spontaneous breathing, eyelid blinking) and can be monitored by parameters (e.g., Electrocardiogram, Blood pressure) and automatically responds to therapeutic intervention without any/ minimal input from the Instructor. Has ability to automatically calculate dependent variables (e.g., Blood pressure, Heart rate) in response to changing cardiovascular system status (e.g., bleeding, intravenous fluid administration), automatically calculates alveolar and arterial gas partial pressures in response to ventilation, fraction of inspired oxygen and metabolic gas exchange. Trauma simulation capabilities include Surgical cricothyroidotomy, Articulated mandible, Articulation in elbow, wrist, knees and elbows; simultaneous bleeding at different sites linked to physiology, Secretions from eyes, ears, mouth, Bi-lateral pneumothorax needle decompression at clinically appropriate location, Bi-lateral chest tube insertion (with fluid return) at clinically correct location. Possible to run multiple injury/disease scenarios simultaneously to create multi-trauma simulations.
