Nuclear Medicine
Vision
Nuclear Medicine is a Medical Specialty that involves the use of small amount of radioactive substances in the diagnosis and treatment of variety of disease. It is well established as a clinical discipline with specific training programmes, special skills & approach to patient management. Nuclear medicine techniques can determine disease at much earlier stages compared to other conventional modalities e.g.X-Rays, USG, CT or MRI, that diagnose disease based on structural abnormalities.
Mission
Dept. of Nuclear Medicine at AIIMS, Rishikesh was inducted in Jan 2018. In line with our mandate, we, at AIIMS, strive hard to provide comprehensive, high quality tertiary care services (specialty and super-specialty services) to our users, committed to provide higher standards of teaching and also clinical Research. We also have comprehensive academic programmes to meet the emerging need of trained Nuclear Medicine Physicians & Technical experts.
Here we are offering-
- World Class Infrastructure with quality patient care for all, including poor, middle & upper class citizens at reasonable or very low cost.
- Currently we have AERB, approved SPECT/CT facility and equipped withDual Headed Gamma Camera with 16 Slice SPECT/CT (Discovery NM-CT), Thyroid Uptake Probe system & Intra-operative Gamma Probe facility since Jan’ 2018.
- We are running Dedicated Thyroid Clinic (Monday to Saturday). We are also offering out patient based low dose 131-I Radioactive Iodine therapy (< 30mCi) for Hyperthyroidism.
- Running outstanding academic programme, including MD (Nuclear Medicine), P.D.C.C., B.Sc. (Nuclear Medicine Technology).
- With excellent support from administration, we are on our way of installationof 1stPET/CT scanner at AIIMS, Rishikesh, which is going to be the first PET/CT imaging facility in entire Uttarakhand state, India.
Following projects are in pipeline for establishment of wide-ranging Diagnostic and Therapeutic facilities, to provide comprehensive Academic Programme to meet emerging need of highly qualified man power to look after the expanding field of Nuclear Medicine imaging & Therapy –
- To establish 131-I Radioactive Iodine High Dose Isolation Wardfacility at AIIMS, Rishikesh & Establish dedicated Cardiac SPECT facility.
- Establish Medical Cyclotron facility at AIIMS, Rishikesh, at the earliest possible time, that will provide onsite Availability of wider Range of PET Radioisotopes, make the Nuclear Medicine & molecular imaging a self-reliant division.
- To establish facility for PET – MRI.
- DM/PDCC Programme in Radionuclide Therapy
- P.D.C.C. in Functional & Cross Sectional Imaging.
These upcoming projects would not only be instrumental in providing ‘Comprehensive Patient Care’, but strengthen the ‘Clinical Research’ capability, helping in starting advanced training programmes in targeted radionuclide therapy but also benefit the MD, M.Sc., B.Sc., PhD, Nuclear Medicine fellows in training.
