Services Available in the department:

Outpatients department:

  • General OPD: Schedule- day and consultant wise
  • Specialty Clinics/ services (Diagnostic and/or Therapeutic): Schedule- day and consultant wise

In-patients department: Neurosurgery ward includes a dedicated high dependency unit that provides comprehensive Neurocritical care. In addition, a fully functional Neurotrauma ward with high dependency unit is available in Trauma center block. Academic neurosurgical residents under direct supervision of faculty members ensure round the clock in patient care.

Procedures (Diagnostic and/or Therapeutic) offered by the department:

  • Department of neurosurgery performs various microscopic and endoscopic surgeries for cranial and spine pathologies. Complex procedures are performed with aid of modern facilities such as intraoperative imaging, neuro navigation, intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) and intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoriong. We also collaborate with other specialties for providing multidisciplinary care.

Facilities available are

  • Neurovascular surgery (surgery for stroke/ aneurysms)
  • Neuro oncology- surgeries for brain and spine tumors
  • Neuroendoscopy- ventricular and trans- spheniodal surgeries
  • Surgery for Head & spine injuries
  • Surgery for Degenerative spine, prolapsed discs, spinal stenosis, spinal instability (spondylolisthesis)
  • Pediatric neurosurgery including Surgeries for hydrocephalus (shunt as well as endoscopic surgery), Spina bifida (spinal dysraphism), craniosynostosis/ craniofacial/surgery for spasticity
  • Peripheral nerve surgery (brachial plexus injuries/ tumors/ surgery for carpel tunnel syndrome).
  • Neurointervention services including endovascular coiling of aneurysms, flow diverters, embolization of vascular malformations in collaboration with interventional radiology department.

MCh Neurosurgery3 year10This is a 3 year specialisation in Neurosurgery, available to candidates holding post-graduate qualifications in General surgery as per institute norms for superspeciality courses. Candidates are posted to neurosurgery in-patient unit, to daily out-patient unit, emergency and trauma services, operating rooms as well as intensive care units, where they are responsible for the care of patients with a range of neurological disorders and learn art of neurological surgery. The course also includes a mandatory research component and teaching experience for undergraduate and post-graduate students.
