Services
Dissection and Cadaveric laboratory: Dissection laboratory of department of Anatomy has cadavers for teaching, learning and research purposes which been received through voluntary body donation programs, Non Governmental Organizations & self help groups. These bodies are voluntarily donated from Uttarakhand and surrounding states, and received by department after proper documentation as per requirement of Anatomy act. All donated bodies used for teaching and medical research are tested thoroughly prior to such activities, for infectious diseases. Our lab is equipped with numerous well preserved prosected specimens, to help our students to enhance their understanding of human anatomy.
Virtual Dissection and Surgical planning laboratory: This imaging facility is one of its types in country. Other than first year medical and paramedical students, faculty and residents, from other clinical departments of institute are also obtaining training and hands on experience on these virtual dissection and surgical planning stations. These equipments have touch enabled interactive display, licensed software and PACS integration. Here we can incorporate patient data for teaching, training and research purposes.
Skill laboratory: Is equipped with artificial cadaver to facilitate doctors and medical students, to learn or practice skills & techniques like chest tube placement, ultrasound, vascular access, injection techniques, venae puncture, joint movements etc. under realistic conditions. Skill lab is used for both learning and assessment.
Embalming facility: Throughout year, thousands of people visit Rishikesh and neighboring places as a part of Char DhamYatra and other pilgrimages. Bodies of tourists / patients who die during their visit are embalmed in our department to prevent decay/degeneration, so that they can be transported to their respective hometowns (even abroad if tourist is a foreigner), in good aesthetic condition. Department of Anatomy is authorized by government of Uttarakhand and is a nodal centre for embalming facility.
Bone bank: We have 47 complete bone sets( male & female) out of which 40 sets are complete original disarticulated bone sets and 2 artificial disarticulated sets are used for teaching MBBS/MD/MSC and other medical courses . We have displayed 5 articulated skeletal in show cases. Collection of bones in our bone bank is increasing, as we have a burial ground facility which is being used for bone harvesting from cadavers on regular basis after chemical treatment.
Departmental library: We have a collection of about 100 national and international books on various disciplines of anatomy. We also have a collection of 12 indexed journals, computers with internet access and projector screen within the library. The library provides a very comfortable environment for reading and discussion among faculty, post graduate and PhD. students.
Radiology gallery: We have approximately 100 radio print posters and pictures with clinical and applied anatomy details. Region wise distribution of radio print posters showing general and special anatomic details : 25 Thorax Radiographs ( including pneumothorax, cholangiograms etc.), 21 Abdomen Radiograph (including Barium meal, Barium swallow,Barium meal follow through etc.), 02 Lower Abdomen (female pelvis), 12 Upper limb Radiograph, 11 Lower limb Radiograph and apart from this 30 Brain CT/MRI ( Extradural, Subdural hemorrhage etc.)are also available. Students undergo special training on these available resources to maximize their comprehensive
Histology and Research Laboratory: We have latest50 Binocular light microscopes for teaching purpose and 2 Binocular and an inverted microscope for teaching and research related activities. We use a projector for displaying images directly from the microscope on to screen during histology teaching of undergraduate students. Around 13000 histology slides which are prepared in our department using sophisticated equipments like Embedding Paraffin System, 2 Rotary Microtomes, Water Purification System, Cryostat, Centrifuge Machine, Water Bath (Floating and Serological), Hot Air Oven, Hot Plate, Laminar air flow chamber, freezing unit etc.
e-Museum: is equipped with smart boards, overhead-projectors and all type of advance audio visual aids, to develop an environment that fosters professional satisfaction and growth in terms of teaching, learning and medical research for undergraduate, post graduate and other clinical specialties. In this e-museum we have proper sitting arrangement to accommodate about 100 students with smart board, podium and state of art teaching facilities for smooth teaching, departmental quizzes and seminars.
Embryology laboratory: We have around 160 fiber and clay models(embryology and genetic) for teaching and medical research , out of which 124 are made in our department itself. We also have a collection of approximately 25 aborted fetuses of different gestational ages which are being used for teaching, learning and research.
3D Printing laboratory: 3D models of pelvis, mandible, spine, femur of patients are being printed out as per requirement from various surgical departments of AIIMS Rishikesh namely- Dentistry, Orthopedics, Trauma & Surgery, Burns & Plastic Surgery and Surgical Oncology. Models are printed with 3D printer using CT scan data of same patient requiring surgical treatment. Patients with complicated conditions such as a fractured acetabulum, squamous cell carcinoma of oral cavity involving mandible, chondrosarcoma / Ewing’s sarcoma of pubic bones, kyphotic deformity of spine are mainly benefited from this printing technique. Since these models are a copy of anatomy of patient itself, it helps operating surgeon in planning best surgical approach in such a way as to minimize surgical time, amount of blood and tissue loss with best recovery. This also helps in implant contouring, to minimize extent of dissection, as a result, it increases recovery and decrease postoperative complications. Our all laboratories, demonstration rooms, lecture theatres are well equipped in terms of smart boards, overhead-projectors and all type of advance audio visual aids, to develop an environment that fosters professional satisfaction and growth in terms of teaching, learning and medical research for Undergraduate, Post graduate and other clinical specialties.

Expansion plan
Cadaveric skill laboratory: It is an essential part of surgical training and is reputed to be best available substitute for live surgery nowadays. It allows trainee to have direct and real feedback while developing anatomical awareness of different structures and their manipulation. In our department we will soon have this facility available to allow and facilitate experience on surgical procedures like: Laparoscopy, Head and neck surgeries, Arthroscopy, Arthroplasty etc.
