Services Available in the department:

  • Outpatients department:
    • General OPD: We are treating cancers of all sites. There are regular outpatient services including diagnosis, staging work up and treatment of cancer. We provide day care chemotherapy facility, targeted therapies and emergency services.
  • Schedule- day and consultant wise
  • Specialty Clinics/ services (Diagnostic and/or Therapeutic): Schedule- day and consultant wise
  • In-patients department: 16 beds, Third Floor, C2 Area.
  • Procedures (Diagnostic and/or Therapeutic) offered by the department:
    • Any special procedures which are done in department in OPD or IPD basis

Department has come up with latest facilities for cancer treatment. Radiation therapy facility has commenced from 26th January 2018. It is a state of art center equipped with high energy linear accelerator Versa HD with FFF radiation beam capable of performing high end radiotherapy techniques.

We are providing 3D CRT, Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT), Radiosurgery [Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT)], Adaptive Radiotherapy and HDR Brachytherpy facilities here. There are dedicated state of the art quality assurance (QA) equipment in the department.

  • What are they aimed at?

3D CRT: Using multi leaf collimators, radiation delivery is shaped according to tumor and it spares some normal tissue.

IMRT: This technique allows the physician to shape the radiation beam according to the exact shape of the tumor. This allows high dose to the tumor while sparing normal structures resulting in high tumor control while minimizing normal tissue toxicity.

VMAT: It is a form of IMRT which is fast and precise, a technology that allows completion of treatment in few minutes by delivering radiation in a volumetric manner with few gantry rotations.

IGRT: This utilizes kv cone beam CT to image the patient before treatment improving the precision and accuracy.

Adaptive Radiotherapy: Radiation delivery is adapted to the changes in the tumor during a fractionated treatment or according to the changes in patient’s body contour.

Radiosurgery delivers very high dose of highly precise radiation to the tumor tissue or functional abnormalities of brain while sparing normal tissue. Treatment is completed in a single day or a few days.

Brachytherapy: it is a form of internal radiotherapy delivered using radioactive materials placed inside or near the tumor for a short time through computer assisted remote control. We have a dedicated brachytherapy operation theatre for placement of applicators and then patient is shifted to brachytherapy unit for treatment.
